AMIA takes action to educate policy makers and thought leaders on many issues that are vital to advancing the United States health care system for all stakeholders and advocate for the field of Informatics. AMIA members and staff take action comprehensively by submitting public comments, collaborating with federal policy makers and invested stakeholders, and by any other means that become available on specific issues.

Public Comments

AMIA acts as expert references on many topics, including but not limited to data privacy, interoperability, and artificial intelligence. AMIA also fights to advance the informatics occupation in health care. Much of this work is done via submitting written comments to federal agencies and to Congress.

Washington Download

AMIA’s Washington Download is a biweekly newsletter for health informatics policy news and information. It highlights the conversations and activities driving the health policy agenda in Washington, D.C.

Public Policy Committee

The committee recommends advocacy issues and activities and identifies critical areas for AMIA's strategic advocacy engagement for Board approval. The committee works with AMIA’s policy consultant, staff, and Board to develop annual work plans which support the strategic directions set by the Board.
