AMIA has released a new strategic plan to guide the organization's mission, investments, and priorities through 2028. Developed by a Board-commissioned task force with input from members and stakeholders across the informatics community, the plan reaffirms AMIA's core values of Scientific Integrity, Impact, and Inclusivity and Collaboration while sharpening focus on three strategic pillars: Empower the Member, Be the Community, and Promote and Build the Field.

"We are at a unique moment in the field of informatics," said AMIA President Philip Payne, PhD, FACMI, FAMIA. "Never before have so many of the theories and methods we've developed become practical, real-world solutions that can drive improvements in patient care and population health. This plan is all about positioning AMIA and its members to be those leaders."

Empower the Member centers on equipping AMIA members with programs, resources, and education to succeed — including AI governance frameworks, career advancement resources, peer learning opportunities, and a shared resource ecosystem for best practices across informatics practice settings.

Be the Community reinforces AMIA's role as a professional home for informaticians at every career stage. The plan calls for enhanced digital member engagement, reinvigorated onboarding, expanded career transition and mentorship support, and the introduction of local and regional events to help members stay connected where they live and work.

Promote and Build the Field reaffirms AMIA's 38-year commitment to championing health informatics nationally and globally — through strengthened partnerships, thought leadership, and active engagement in national policy and practice alongside policymakers and key stakeholders.

"AMIA is as strong as its members," Payne said. "We need all of our members to come forward, lean in, and help us implement this plan."

Members are encouraged to get involved by joining a working group, attending a meeting, or participating in the conversations shaping the future of the field.
