Clinical Research Informatics involves the use of informatics in the discovery and management of new knowledge relating to health and disease. It includes management of information related to clinical trials and also involves informatics related to secondary research use of clinical data. Clinical research informatics and translational bioinformatics are the primary domains related to informatics activities to support translational research.

Meetings & Events
Each year, AMIA hosts the Joint Summits which serve as the primary forum to connect with leaders in the field of informatics who are advancing translational science at the nexus of bioinformatics and clinical research. The theme of the 2016 Joint Summits is accelerating precision medicine and patient-centered outcomes research through discovery, development and delivery.
AMIA offers virtual distance learning informatics training through 10x10 courses presented by university partners. More than 35,000 CE credits have been granted through the 10x10 program.
Ohio State University offers an introductory course on clinical research informatics. The goals of this course are to provide students with a survey of the rapidly emerging field of clinical research informatics and highlighting the key challenges and opportunities facing CRI.
