AMIA 2019 Health Informatics Policy Forum

Clinical Decision Support in the Era of Big Data and Machine Learning

National Press Club
Washington, D.C.
December 5, 2019

The AMIA 2019 Health Informatics Policy Forum will consider the future of Clinical Decision Support in an Era of Big Data & Machine Learning. As part of a change to our annual Policy Invitational, this meeting is open to all AMIA members and nonmembers. The Forum will convene 150 experts and stakeholders to discuss emerging opportunities and challenges related to the use of Clinical Decision Support (CDS) at a time where several trends are converging, including:

(1) the growing expansion of structured and unstructured data in health;
(2) increasing and distributed computing power; and
(3) advances in computational methodology.

This fast approaching future will result in a new breed of CDS, referred to as “Adaptive CDS,” which can learn from the introduction of new clinical evidence, new datatypes and data sources, and new methods for interpreting data. Designed and managed by our Steering Committee, the AMIA Policy Forum will place a specific emphasis on how the informatics community recommends Adaptive CDS be developed, tested, deployed, monitored, and evaluated. Held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C., this exclusive gathering of the nation’s foremost informatics experts will include provocative keynotes, interactive panel discussions, and networking. Attendees will hear from industry, academia, and government stakeholders, leading conversations at the cutting edge of artificial intelligence, precision medicine, data science, and clinical informatics.

Accepted panelists will have a unique opportunity to engage with policymakers and some of the world’s leading experts focused on the intersection of public policy and AI, health and big data. AMIA is reimagining its policy meeting to provide a unique Forum for industry, academia, government, and nonprofit thinkers to discuss the future of medicine, research and wellness.
