The Heartland Region Pilot’s Health Information Exchange (HIE) system, Patient Centered Data Home™, was launched to increase accessibility to patient medical records.
For Karmen Williams, DrPH, MBA, MSPH, MA, post-doctoral fellow at Regenstrief Institute, interoperability of health information exchanges is critical to providing seamless care to patients.
Williams’ work, which was presented at the AMIA 2019 Clinical Informatics Conference, shows the importance of tapping informaticians to manage and translate data that comes through healthcare facilities, so we can increase the availability of patient health information.
Why Informatics? So, clinicians can access a person’s medical records no matter where they seek care.
