Monitoring Deadly Diseases

More than 235,000 people have served as Peace Corps volunteers around the world.

In an article published by the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association, informaticians evaluated the Peace Corps’ malaria-focused disease surveillance system that integrates EHRs to monitor the disease in its volunteers.

What did they discover? Improvements and refinements in the Peace Corps’ existing surveillance system can enhance disease analysis, patient care, health education and policy.

Why Informatics? So, we can utilize EHRs to monitor deadly diseases like malaria in Peace Corps volunteers.
