In response to a Senate HELP Committee white paper on preparing for the next pandemic, AMIA made several suggestions on ways Congress can improve the nation’s data-driven public health surveillance ecosystem. AMIA urged Congress to address limited connectivity between health care systems and public health systems for better surveillance and modeling; inconsistent, siloed funding for public health operations, such as workforce, data infrastructure, and planning capacity; and lack of coordination among local, county, state, and federal public health leaders.
