Statement in Support of NCATS Strategic Development

Friday, January 8, 2016

The following statement was released today by Douglas B. Fridsma, M.D., PhD., FACP, FACMI, President and CEO, American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA)

AMIA supports the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) and believes its mission is foundational to the broader goals of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to bring cures from the bench to bedside.

We are excited NCATS will be undergoing a strategic planning process and have provided several high-level recommendations.  If NCATS develops ways to measure and convey how their programs impact patients and institutions; defines its identity as the source for “systems science” within the NIH; and ensures that informatics continues to play a vital role in the organization’s focus, we are confident NCATS will build on its history of important contributions to the NIH. AMIA members are proud to contribute substantively to the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Consortium and be part of the NCATS success story.
