BETHESDA, MD (December 12) – Kevin Fickenscher, MD, President and CEO today announced that Ross D. Martin, MD, MHA, has been named Vice President of Corporate Relations and Business Development for AMIA.
Dr. Martin will be the primary liaison between corporate, government and non-profit entities interested in collaboration and financial support of the AMIA mission, the Annual Symposium, the Joint Summits on Translation Bioinformatics, and the iHealth Conference. His broad based consulting experience provides a strong foundation for building relationships with industry leaders and emerging companies in the core informatics domains AMIA serves – translational, clinical research, clinical, consumer health, public health and operational informatics.

Dr. Martin joins AMIA after four years with Deloitte Consulting, LLP. Dr. Martin was a Specialist Leader and co-lead of the healthcare go-to-market team in the Federal Strategy practice where he focused on the technology standards and policies that support adoption and meaningful use of electronic health records, health information exchange, and the convergence of clinical research and clinical care. He was a subject matter advisor to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology at the Department of Health and Human Services.
Prior to joining Deloitte, Dr. Martin was Director of Health Information Convergence at BearingPoint, Inc. He was also the Director of Healthcare Informatics at Pfizer, rising through the ranks from 2001 – 2007. Dr. Martin worked on e- prescribing standards, EMR and medical education.
Dr. Martin’s professional work has kept him close to rapidly moving informatics research and practice developments. He earned a medical degree from the University of Cincinnati, a master of health services administration degree from Xavier University, and a National Library of Medicine fellowship in medical informatics at the Harvard/MIT Division of Health Sciences & Technology. He was the first recipient of National Council for Prescription Drug Program’s Rising Star Award in 2004 and taught physician executives about health IT as a Senior Executive Education Fellow at the University of Maryland’s Smith School of Business. Residing in Maryland, Dr. Ross is married and a proud parent.
