Addressing Informatics Challenges by Solving the ‘Terminology Problem’
Featured speaker Jim Cimino will draw on his experience with the clinical information systems, clinical decision support systems, research data repositories, the Unified Medical Language System, SNOMED, and HL-7 to discuss challenges that become more tractable when principles of high-quality terminology are considered. The formal presentation will be followed by an open Q&A session.
Dr. Cimino completed residency training in internal medicine at Saint Vincent's Hospital in New York and a research fellowship in medical informatics at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard. He went on to become professor of biomedical informatics and medicine at Columbia University. He is currently Chief of the Laboratory for Informatics Development at the NIH Clinical Center and is a past president of the American College of Medical Informatics.
