EHR 2020 Task Force Recommendations: Implementation and Impact?
This iHealth pre-conference workshop brings together 20 CNIO and CMIO executives responsible for EHR success. They are experienced in addressing the failures and shortcomings of systems that stand in the way of achieving better outcomes at a lower cost.
The AMIA Board chartered the multidisciplinary EHR 2020 Task Force to develop recommendations on how to resolve issues presented by EHRs. AMIA has addressed electronic documentation and usability because of the importance of these areas to EHR success. Even as the HITECH Meaningful Use Incentive Program advanced EHR adoption, clinicians are voicing concerns that EHR use has reduced time for patient-provider interaction, transferred new and burdensome data entry tasks to front-line clinicians, and lengthened workdays.
The initial recommendations of the task force with feedback from the CMIO/CNIO workshop participants are just the beginning of a larger process that AMIA will continue to undertake over the coming year, including this workshop and the upcoming Policy Invitational on September 17-18 in Washington, D.C.
