The application includes four primary sections – education, experience, continuing education (for those without an informatics degree), and agreement to follow the AMIA Code of Ethics. To reduce burden on applicants, AMIA will accept unofficial documentation of graduation and the applicant’s attestation of employment for determination of eligibility. Additional information may be requested if questions arise during the application review. Further, as noted below, official transcripts and confirmation from employers will be needed for applications selected for audit. AMIA membership is not required for eligibility for the AHIC exam.

Please note: The name on the AHIC application must exactly match the name listed on your valid, government issued ID. If a name change occurs after submitting an application, please provide the supporting documentation to certification@amia.org.

AHIC Application Checklist

Before starting your AHIC application, you will want to ensure you have the following materials ready and available:

  • AMIA member number (if applicable)
  • Detailed CV or resume
  • AMIA Work Experience Form
  • Unofficial transcripts or copy of degree(s) earned
  • Payment method

Application Audits

AMIA audits at least 10% of all AHIC applications. Applicants randomly selected for audit will be asked to provide additional documentation in support of the application. This documentation may include an official transcript for the qualifying degree, attestations to work experience from supervisors, and/or other clarifying information.
