March 1, 2013

Dual use research of concern (DURC) is life sciences research that has the potential to provide knowledge, information, products, or technologies that can be misused so as to pose a threat to public health and safety. The draft policy on how institutions should monitor this type of research, “United States Government Policy for Institutional Oversight of Life Sciences Dual Use Research of Concern, “ is available from: http://www.phe.gov/s3/dualuse/Pages/default.aspx . Comments from the public are invited. This draft focuses on institutional oversight and builds on the “Policy for Oversight of Life Sciences Dual Use Research of Concern” released in March 2012.
