New HIT Policy Workgroup to Focus on Safety
A new workgroup of the HIT Policy Committee is charged with identifying ways to improve the safety, innovation and regulatory efficiency of health information technology. The group also will compile a report on strategies and recommendations for a risk-based regulatory framework for health I.T., including medical mobile applications. Several AMIA members have been appointed to the group. The workgroup will focus on safety risks--and likelihood--that may be posed by health I.T., factors to be included in a risk-based regulatory approach, and approaches to avoid duplicative or overlapping regulatory requirements. Its first meeting is scheduled on April 29. See: http://www.healthit.gov/policy-researchers-implementers/federal-advisory...
