Clinical Decision Support and Benefits of Early Warning Scoring Systems
Webinar: Wednesday, January 25th at 12:00 p.m. (EST)
This is the second presentation in the ongoing series on Clinical Decision support hosted by Philips Healthcare CMIO, Joseph Frassica, MD.
Deteriorating ward patients are at increased risk. Electronic automated advisory vital signs monitors using an early warning score system may help identify such patients and improve their outcomes. Philips researchers studied 18305 patients in 349 beds and 12 general wards in 10 hospitals in the USA, Europe and Australia, using a Before-and-after controlled trial design. They deployed electronic automated advisory vital signs monitors to assist in the acquisition of vital signs and calculation of early warning scores (EWS) and assessed their effect on frequency, type, and treatment of rapid response team (RRT) calls; survival to hospital discharge or to 90 days for RRT call patients; overall type and number of serious adverse events (SAEs) and length of hospital stay (LOS).
