Clinical Informatics Medical Subspecialty: ABPM Projects Exam Fall 2013

Representatives of AMIA and the American Board of Preventive Medicine (ABPM) worked closely together to develop the ABMS approved clinical informatics subspecialty. AMIA is preparing educational offerings to support the Clinical Informatics Medical Subspecialty.  With ABPM creating the inaugural examination projected for fall 2013, AMIA is developing a live multi-day course, to be available in multiple locations around the country and an online module designed to prepare eligible physicians for the first sitting of the examination.  More information about both will be announced in first quarter 2013. AMIA will also organize the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) process for those who become certified.

AMIA is appointing a course director from the informatics community to work in conjunction with the AMIA staff and an e-learning provider to develop the course content. The course director will recruit faculty to design and implement the course. Course preparation will include an AMIA Clinical Informatics Subspecialty Guidebook with sample questions in clinical informatics content areas likely to be covered on the examination.
