2012 Joint Summits Poster Bullet presentations will be new this year at AMIA’s Joint Summits on Translational Science, March 19-23. Poster authors will give a 5-minute “bullet presentation” to describe preliminary research results, outcomes of small-scale studies, illustrations of innovative systems and services, and highlights from experiments and in-practice projects. This is a terrific opportunity to learn about cutting-edge science from the finest minds in translational bioinformatics (TBI) and clinical research informatics (CRI). Bullet presentations will run in rapid-fire succession immediately after paper and podium abstract presentation sessions.

GROUP REGISTRATION SPECIAL!
AMIA is pleased to make available a special offer to institutions that routinely send large groups of attendees to the Summits. This offer applies to the registration for the TBI Summit, the CRI Summit, or both. For every 10 registrations from a single institution, one complimentary registration will be issued by AMIA. A query of the attendee roster from the 2011 Joint Summits demonstrates there are several institutions that qualify, so we encourage informatics training programs and institutions to organize their group. Contact Dasha Cohen at dasha@amia.org for more information.

Register Now! Advanced registration deadline is Feb. 23. Preview the 2012 Joint Summits program here.

AMIA 2012 The Scientific Program Committee (SPC) through the publication of the AMIA 2012 Call for Participation solicits manuscripts and proposals for the Annual Symposium, Nov. 3-7, in Chicago.

The SPC introduced four new categories this year. One of the innovations that SPC Chair Bill Hersh is excited about is a new category of presentation titled State of the Practice. Dr. Hersh hopes to receive proposals from “experts and leaders from operational settings who will describe key problems and challenges whose solutions have answers in the scientific research of the field.”

Another new category called Working Group Pre-Symposia seeks to engage AMIA’s Working Groups (WG) to design programs that promote participation and discussion among constituents. WGs are encouraged to write proposals that will bring together individuals with similar or different roles in developing, implementing, or using informatics in practice, management, education, research or policy.

AMIA is replacing the journal eligible program with a category for podium presentations of abstracts. This new category of submission will allow authors to present their most innovative and cutting-edge work, with the abstract published in the proceedings but not indexed in MEDLINE, so that the author will retain complete flexibility for future publication of the work.

Finally, AMIA will reintroduce submitted proposals for half- and full-day tutorials with topics ranging from the general introductory level through specialized advanced treatments of informatics topics. The deadline for submissions is March 15. Click here for additional information about all categories of submission.

Military Electronic Health Records ConferenceAMIA will co-sponsor the upcoming Military Electronic Health Records Conference at the Holiday Inn, Rosslyn, Va., March 15-16.
