McCormick and Gugerty author new book

Two AMIA members, Kathleen A. McCormick, PhD, RN  and Brian Gugerty, DNS, RN, are authors of a new book titled “Healthcare Information Technology Exam Guide for CompTIA® Healthcare IT Technician & HIT Pro™ Certifications” published by McGraw-Hill. The 800-page book is a resource for IT professionals new to healthcare and clinicians wanting to know more about HIT.  Objectives for all six ONC HIT Pro certification exams are covered.

AMIA Invited to Present on HITPC MU Hearings

On February 13 the HIT Policy Committee’s Meaningful Use Workgroup and Certification and Adoption Workgroup will hold a public hearing on Clinical Documentation.  The information from this hearing will inform deliberations on Stage 3 of Meaningful Use.  Gil Kuperman, MD, PhD, AMIA, Board Chair, and S. Trent Rosenbloom, MD, MPH, will open the hearing with a summary of the AMIA December 2011 Invitational Public Policy meeting which focused on Clinical Data Capture and Documentation. Call for Participation ONC Structured Data Capture (SDC) Initiative

ONC’s Office of the Chief Scientist together with the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) invite you to join the S&I Framework’s new Structured Data Capture (SDC) Initiative. The Structured Data Capture (SDC) Initiative will develop and validate a standards based data architecture so that a structured set of data can be accessed from EHRs and be stored for existing EHR. FCC to Award up to $400M for Rural Telemedicine

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) will award up to $400 million annually under its new Healthcare Connect Fund to accelerate development of broadband networks supporting rural telemedicine and access to health records.

DHHS Announces New HIPAA Rules

DHHS released updates to HIPAA privacy and security rules. The rule has an effective date of March 26, 2013 with compliance required 180 days later on September 23, 2013.  Public inspection copy of the Final Rule.
