About AMIA

The American Medical Informatics Association is serious about health IT. The year 2006, marks the fifteenth year the organization has had formal membership for individuals, corporations, and institutions directly involved in the development, implementation, and use of information technology in medicine. However, AMIA members have gathered at formal meetings to interact and advance the field of health care informatics for more than 30 years. There is not a major health IT event in the United States today that brings together the expertise, high-quality presentations, or the passion that AMIA provides through its events.

AMIA members are diverse coming from backgrounds as physicians, nurses, pharmacists, researchers, scientists, information technology specialists, programmers, legislative/governmental professionals, public health workers, vendor representatives, and educators.

Our members play active roles in all the major IT initiatives and government advisory panels including the Systemic Interoperability Commission, JACHO Health Advisory Panel, Health Level Seven, NACHO, and many others. AMIA members work for the major health IT vendors and run all of the top educational informatics programs across the country.
