In addition to tutorials, workshops, and program sessions, the AMIA 1999 Annual Symposium will feature a series of activities in the Exhibit Hall at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel. Exhibits provide attendees an opportunity to see cutting-edge health information technology products from some of the leading suppliers in both the commercial marketplace and the nonprofit world. Late Monday and Tuesday afternoons, poster sessions will present some of the most innovative research, development, and application concepts and projects in medical informatics today. And this year, we are pleased to feature the Cancer Informatics Tech Expo, consisting of demonstrations and descriptions of some three dozen cancer information products and projects. This unique feature of AMIA’99 is made possible through the support and sponsorship of the National Cancer Institute. Some three dozen projects and products related to cancer informatics research and development will be on display Monday and Tuesday in the Exhibit Hall during all hours the Exhibit Hall is open. Each of the displays will address one or more of the key phases in the lifecycle of a clinical trial: authoring, activating, conducting, and disseminating results. We hope you will reserve time to come see these innovative products, projects, and reports on display. Poster Sessions Poster sessions represent an important venue for AMIA members to present in-progress and recently concluded research, to demonstrate new and evolving products, and to provide a glimpse into the applied medical informatics future. The poster sessions have something for everyone. Attendees go home with plenty of ideas to consider when designing and carrying out their own investigations, further refining their own systems, or developing their training and educational programs. This year there will be more than 90 different posters each on Monday from 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm and Tuesday afternoon from 3:45 pm to 5:45 pm. in the Exhibit Hall. A Best Poster Award will be presented at the Symposium closing session onWednesday afternoon. Exhibits Our exhibitors represent an important resource to AMIA members and provide valuable support for the Annual Symposium. Attendees are encouraged to spend time viewing many of the latest health information technology products and services available. Here are some of the exhibitors that signed up early for AMIA 99; be sure to monitor the AMIA Web site for names of additional exhibitors as they come on board.
