AMIA 2006 Annual Symposium

General Information
Badges as Entrance Passes Attendees are asked to wear their badges at all times when attending meeting sessions and events. This is an indication that you are appropriately registered for AMIA 2006. Room monitors are instructed to ask individuals not wearing a badge to either display one or have a replacement issued at the registration desk before being admitted to a session or other activity. Wireless Internet access for attendees: Internet access is provided to you for your convenience by the American Medical Informatics Association. Excessive bandwidth usage, such as broadcasting, streaming or continuous downloading of files may affect network performance and is strongly discouraged. Any device which adversely impacts our network may be blocked from further access without prior notice to you. Please limit your usage to email access and web browsing. Connecting your laptop to the Internet with a wireless connection: Wireless Internet access is available in the Concourse Pre-function Area (Registration), Cabinet Room (Cyber Café), and the Innovation & Information Center. You can connect to our wireless network by selecting the wireless network SSID “AMIA”. WEP encryption is 40/64-Bit. Set WEP key (password) to “4e9b3f2d6a”. Launch the browser of your choice. You should now have Internet connectivity. Viruses, trojans and worms: Your computer’s performance and stability may be adversely affected if your device is infected with a virus, trojan or worm. In addition, your confidential data may be at risk. Please install an anti-virus software program and update the virus definitions prior to connecting your computer to our network. Also, please download and install all Microsoft critical updates, patches and service packs. For Microsoft updates, go to “http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com”. Technical assistance: For assistance, please come to the Registration Desk. Cyber Café Saturday, November 11-Tuesday November 14 Cabinet Room Computers will be provided, complete with internet connection via T-1 lines, to registered Symposium attendees. The connection will be available for any attendees who wish to check their e-mail accounts provided that the attendee has configuration information. Please limit your use to 10 minutes. Note about Firewalls: If your mail account is on a server that is protected by a firewall, be sure to bring any proxy server information with you. Check with your site administrator to determine this information, as we will not have access to it. Speaker Ready Room Chevy Chase AVW-TELAV AMIA’s audiovisual company will have equipment and a technician available for speakers who wish to review slides or overheads, set-up laptops for demos, or need technical assistance. Speakers should report to their session room 30 minutes before their scheduled presentation to set-up their computer with LCD projectors. No Smoking Policy Smoking is permitted only in the McClellans Bar. Message Board A message board will be located in the registration area for attendees to leave messages for one another. The hotel also has voice mail for each guest room, and AMIA will have a number of terminals on which attendees will be able to send Internet e-mail. Responsible Drinking Policy Alcohol will be available at some of the AMIA 2006 receptions. Please exercise a responsible drinking policy. Your cooperation will help keep our events pleasant and enjoyable for everyone. Safety First We want you to have a safe and enjoyable time visiting Washington, DC. Please observe the caution appropriate for any major urban area. Don’t forget to remove your name badge before leaving the hotel. The badge clearly identifies you as a tourist in unfamiliar surroundings. Attendance Policy at Program Sessions All attendees at any program session, the opening session, or the closing session must be registered either for the full conference, or as a daily registrant specifically for the day of an activity they are attending, and MUST show their badge for entrance. Tutorial attendees may attend only those tutorials for which they are registered and will be required to turn in a ticket at the door. Tickets will be distributed with registration materials or are available for purchase on-site.
