Committee Events

AMIA has several permanent (standing) committees and ad hoc committees. These committees make recommendations to the AMIA Board of Directors concerning policies and activities of the association. Committee appointments are generally two years, on a term coinciding with that of the AMIA Chairman. AMIA committees and chairs are listed below. For a list of members, click here.

How Do I Join an AMIA Committee?
With the approval of the Board of Directors, the Chairman of AMIA appoints a Chair for each committee to serve for two years; the Chair may serve no more than two successive terms. Volunteers are solicited from among the AMIA membership to serve on committees. Drawing on the list of volunteers and on the Chair’s own knowledge of the AMIA membership, the Committee Chair recommends appointments to the committee that are then approved by the Chairman. The exception is the Nominating Committee, which is chaired by the immediate past-Chairman, whose appointments to the committee do not require subsequent approval.

Members of all committees serve renewable two-year terms. The Chair and the majority of all committee members must be members of AMIA; in fact, it is exptemely rare for a non-member to serve on an AMIA committee. Non-members must be approved by both the Chairman and the President and CEO. The Chair of any committee may organize subcommittees. At least one member of each committee must be a member of the AMIA Board of Directors. The Chairs of the committee prepare a written report to the Board of Directors for each annual meeting.

AMIA’s Chairman may establish committees as deemed necessary or as directed by the Board of Directors. These may be for a short-term purpose, and the Chairman may dissolve them when they have completed their functions. AMIA will be sending notices by e-mail for general membership to volunteer for committee work, or you may send an e-mail of interest to mail@amia.org with subject line “AMIA Committee Participation”.
