ACMI 2011 Winter Symposium
Open to ACMI Fellows only.
"Healthcare Economics, HIT, and Informatics"
It is accepted that the high and growing costs of healthcare in the U.S. today are unsustainable. The purpose of this year's retreat is to examine healthcare economics, the role of health information technology, and the potential contributions from the biomedical and health informatics community in relation to the economic circumstances forecasted for the healthcare system. During scientific sessions starting on Friday, February 4, 2011, Saturday, February 5, 2011, and concluding on Sunday, February 6, 2011, Fellows and guests of the American College of Medical Informatics will address the following key questions:
- How are innovative organizations planning to change the economics of healthcare?
- How does Meaningful Use impact HIT's role in enabling different economic models to contain costs, vs. maintaining quality?
- How is the public involved?
Invited speakers include national leaders in healthcare IT planning, and leaders from innovative healthcare organizations that have used healthcare IT prominently:
- Mark B. McClellan, Director, Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform, Senior Fellow, Economic Studies, and Leonard D. Schaeffer Chair in Health Policy Studies, Brookings Institution
- Louise Liang, Retired Senior Vice President, Quality and Clinical Systems Support, Kaiser Permanente
- Thomas Graf, Chairman, Community Practice Service, Geisinger Health System
As is the tradition with ACMI Winter Symposium, the program will include ample time for reflections and discussion by the entire group.
The Scientific Program Committee is responsible for the meeting design and is comprised Tom Payne (Chair), Danny Sands, David Bates, Stan Huff, Lucila Ohno-Machado, Gil Kuperman, Henry Chueh, and Jim Cimino (ex-officio).
