The AMIA OS WG will have two roles to play at medinfo2004 (http://www.medinfo2004.org ) this year (there is no AMIA Fall Congress this year):

  1. We will have a joint business meeting with the IMIA OS WG. This will be open to everybody and not just the committees. PLEASE ATTEND - and join with our wider community in directing the WGs activities for the coming year. Exact date and time to be confirmed imminently.
  2. We have an opportunity within the Congress program to present the AMIA OS WG vision. This will be a 1 hr 45mins slot. As this is not within the scientific program we must be clear to present the vision & strategy of the group only.

Therefore the AMIA OS WG Executive Committee have agreed, with the medinfo organisers, the following format for this session:
a) Panel presentation of the AMIA OS WG vision & strategy
b) Within this we will have time allocated for very brief (max 3 mins - no slides/ powerpoint / demos etc) presentations from the floor about individual projects. This will allow us to present the state of the art in the field. We expect this to be an entertaining, fun and fast-paced component of the session.

I am therefore asking for your help in the following areas.

  1. If you would like to help direct the vision and strategy of the AMIA OS WG, please join with me in re-examining the documents written in order to get the WG established (available online at http://www.openparadigms.com:9080/OSWG_Work/ ). If as a group we are happy with the content we will simply revise and review the details for presentation. If there are additional items or changes this is our opportunity to do so. If you would like to be part of this group of people please email me directly at nshaw@cw.bc.ca All output from this group will be shared with the full WG for discussion and feedback. Please be aware that not only does this group need people who can direct the vision and strategy and re-write the documents but we need people to present it too (c. 4). If you have skills in either area please let me know.
  2. If you have a project you would like to very briefly present on - please also let me know your name and the project name and focus. The max of 3 mins each will be very strictly adhered to so if you can't be brief, or will be offended if the moderator enforces the time limit - please don't volunteer.

As always, all suggestions and comments welcomed. I need a response by midnight (EST) on Sunday 29th February for the first group (vision) and at your leisure for the second (very brief project presentations).

Many thanks

Nikki
