Job descriptions and qualification information for positions

Biomedical Linguist: analyzes language in a biomedical domain. Tasks include biomedical morphology, lexicography, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. The position requires at least an undergraduate degree in linguistics. Candidates with strong fieldwork and applied experience are preferred, especially those with some familiarity of biomedical language.

Biomedical Knowledge Engineer: develops representations of biomedical knowledge for use in natural language applications. Tasks include knowledge acquisition, knowledge representation, and ontology development. The position requires at least an undergraduate degree in computer science, with a strong background in artificial intelligence. Candidates with familiarity of a biomedical domain are preferred.

Corpus Statistician: develops statistical models of biomedical language. Application areas include speech recognition, terminology discovery, document classification, and information retrieval. The position requires at least an undergraduate degree in statistics, with some background in computer science. Candidates with familiarity of corpus linguistics are preferred.

Software developer: dewgns and implements programs to support natural language processing. Applications include parsers, linguistic knowledge bases, machine learning algorithms, user interfaces, and text analysis programs. The position requires at least an undergraduate degree in computer science. Candidates with some experience in linguistics or text processing are preferred.
