What is Natural Language Processing?

Natural Language Processing (NLP-WG) is the formulation and investigation of computationally effective mechanisms for communication through natural language. Applications in the biomedical domain include: extraction of information from biomedical texts; retrieval of information from large, unstructured collections (such as the biomedical literature and World Wide Web); and interaction with clinicians, patients, and scientists through natural language.
