Job Descriptions

Role Description for Super User submitted June 2005 AtlantiCare Regional Medical CTR

  • Foster a team-learning environment
  • Local resource with clinical and some software background
  • Communicate critical application information
  • Instructor, assistant to instructor, or lab proctor
  • Act as a coach to end users.
  • Engage during WBT training and TRAIN domain training
  • Operate as central point for trouble-shooting in their unit

Skills/Characteristics
  • Be able to recognize when to coach and when to give instructions
  • Be able to demonstrate appreciation and patience of different learning styles
  • Have a mastery of coaching strategies
  • Be able to use step-by-step approach to help end users.
  • Be able to understand internal issue resolution procedures
  • Provide mentoring skills
  • Be respected and influential among peers
  • Be open to new ideas and flexible.
  • Be an active listener
  • Be willing to help others
  • Role is not critical to patient care

Responsibilities
  • Be able to complete Windows and Cerner application training and demonstrate subject mastery
  • Attend Super User Coaching workshop
  • Be able to assist with Windows and with application training.
  • Be able to assist in software evaluation and testing.
  • Be willing to consider policy and process adjustments
  • Be available to work with frequently asked questions (newsletter) and to assist in developing newsletter listing

Other responsibilities might include:
  • Assisting in identifying training needs
  • Observing learning mastery in end users
  • Help to develop teaching manuals and learning guides for WBT and instructor-led training
  • Design and develop cheat sheets

As a part of the extended training, super users will serve as testers for application testing, may participate in a super user conversion preparation meeting, and may complete the assigned end-user training tasks before the conversion. Incorporated into the conversion schedule, the timeline for super users at AtlantiCare (and trainers) might look like this:

Time Commitment

Trainers:

  • Based on education plan draft (January 2004) we will need two full time trainers and 2 part time trainers.
  • Trainers will be taken offline for approximately 7 to 8 weeks for testing, training of super users & end users, and conversion support 1 week post go live
  • Attend a class to help develop "training" skills focusing on people skills
  • Act as Super User / Resources once back on units

Super Users:

  • Will be taken offline for 1 week for training prior to the start of End User Training
  • Small group will be utilized during the 3 to 4 weeks of training as lab proctors in classes - taken offline
  • Attend refresher classes as needed prior to go live
  • Participate in testing as needed
  • Provide conversion support for 3 days post go live - taken offline and off their floor
  • Attend a class to help develop "training" skills focusing on people skills
  • Continue Super User role on units
