Job Description: ED Clinical Information Systems Coordinator
Major Functions:
Use Clinical knowledge and experience to evaluate, design, build, test and make changes to Emergency Department electronic triage and documentation system that comply with JCAHO, EMTALA, HIPPA and nursing standards.
Use the Emergency Department electronic triage and tracking system as a staff nurse to troubleshoot, evaluate and make necessary changes to functionality.
Acts as a resource and representative of the Emergency Department to other clinical areas regarding FirstNet implementation, accessibility and
use.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain knowledge of interaction capabilities and limitations of interfaced systems such as Affinity, Accudose, SoftMed, and Wallace.
Lead contact for FirstNet issues not resolvable "in house" that have been logged with Cerner.
Competent in the development and conducting of educational training classes for FirstNet software for physicians, hospitalists, medical staff, nurses, administrators all other ED positions and ancillary staff including lab, and medical imaging personnel.
Manipulate, test and implement new Cerner functionality pertinent to the Emergency Department process.
Works with staff to develop goals and objectives for future electronic documentation.
Monitors security and confidentiality of ED systems for potential or actual problems and coordinates resolutions with appropriate members of C.A.T.S. team.
Demonstrates ability to perform problem analysis and resolution. Works with ED staff to resolve problems, documents resolution or escalates to Cerner support level.
Analyze electronic data collected for accuracy and creates custom reports on request from Emergency Department leaders and other departments where their data needs reflect Emergency Department process. Uses custom reports for monitoring and maintenance of the triage and documentation system.
Maintains an understanding of interaction of FirstNet with other hospital clinical systems.
Collaborates with other members of the C.A.T.S. team in building, testing and, troubleshooting all Cerner's applications purchased by MJH.
Maintains project timelines and enlists additional personnel required for testing as needed.
Represents the Emergency Department on the Nursing Technology Committee.
Assists in the coordination of departmental computer hardware needs for all clinical data repository and documentation systems.
Acts as an information systems interdisciplinary liaison within the Emergency Department and to other departments that interact with the Emergency Department.
Maintains knowledge of hardware and networking areas related to ED needs.
PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING:
- Must be able to investigate and problem solve in depth system problems, documents resolution or escalates to vendor support.
- Independent and collaborative analysis of ED process and data related to FirstNet to discover potential problems and determine best solution to implement.
- Prioritizing and scheduling of multiple work requests from end users.
- Troubleshooting computer hardware and/or software problems to resolve or refer problems to appropriate C.A.T.S. team member or I/S Help Desk.
- Analyzing and testing and validation of data.
