CLINICAL INFORMATION SYSTEMS COORDINATOR

Job Summary

Responsible to the Director of Clinical Computing and working collaboratively with users of the Clinical Information System, will be responsible for coordinating aspects of planning, design, development, implementation, maintenance, and evaluation of the Clinical Information System (CIS). Professionally accountable to the Director of Professional Nursing.

Job Responsibilities

  1. Coordinate and participate in aspects of systems analysis, planning, design, development, testing, and implementation of the CIS.
  2. Participate in planning related to future direction of the CIS and related efforts.
  3. Coordinate processing and follow-up of requests for enhancement and changes from users or others affected by the system.
  4. Coordinate and participate in efforts towards maintaining components of the automated CIS, including revisions, testing, and integration of changes in components of the CIS.
  5. Maintain documentation and tracking of required fixes, enhancements, and testing.
  6. Collaborate with the Manager of Implementation, Training and Support in coordinating evaluation of development efforts, in planning pilot and full implementations of new CIS features, and in processing user feedback and requests.
  7. Collaborate with [enterprise] regional representatives, [enterprise] departments and sections, as well as outside consultants and company representatives, in the planning, development, testing, revision, and maintenance of the CIS.
  8. Participate in computer training and orientation activities for current and in-coming personnel, students, and faculty.
  9. Participate in provision of pro-active support to end users.
  10. Maintain membership on, or consultation to, committees, work groups, or task forces as needed to communicate and facilitate the ongoing progress of the development, implementation, and revision of the CIS.
  11. Maintain a detailed understanding and working knowledge of the current CIS, its functions and its relationship to other information systems within the enterprise.
  12. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of trends and advances in the field of Nursing and Healthcare Informatics, as well as new developments in hardware and software technology.
  13. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of nursing practices, JCAHO standards, management and healthcare issues and trends, and the legal implications of the CIS.
  14. Participate in interviewing and hiring new employees in the Department of Clinical Computing.
  15. Assist in supervision and evaluation of the Department of Clinical Computing employees.
  16. Participate in research related to the CIS.
  17. Initiate and participate in presentations and publications about the CIS at conferences and in professional journals as appropriate. Attend conferences and seminars as appropriate.
  18. Maintain membership in organizations that enhance professional growth.
  19. Maintain relationships with the [enterprise] Nursing and Clinical communities.
  20. Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience

MS in Nursing or related field preferred, BSN plus three years experience in clinical nursing required. Licensed to practice in the state of ___. Minimum five years experience with clinical information systems development and/or implementation required. Strong computer skills. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills.
