The 17- credit Web-based Graduate level Certificate Program in Health Care Informatics is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to take a leadership role in the selection and implementation of health care information management systems, and in applying the knowledge gained from the information generated from these systems.
The enrollment requirements are a bachelor's degree in a health care discipline or bachelor's degree and work experience in a health care organization. The Certificate Program in Health Care Informatics accepts applications for admission on a rolling or continuous basis.
You may take one or more courses without enrolling in the certificate program. Non-matriculated students will be required to meet the same admission requirements as matriculated students.

This course is an overview Health-Science Informatics
and the skills needed to access information. The focus of the course is the use of
computer and technology based health applications to support clinical, administrative and
educational decision-making in order to improve the student's performance as a provider,
educator, or student.
The student will use various methodologies to create their
own scholarly multimedia presentations that include movies, animation, sound and
appropriate citation of web resources. The student will also learn how to troubleshoot
common problems associated with accessing the Internet.

NU 333 Nursing Informatics is a two credit undergraduate BSN course required for our students at Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston, Idaho. It is offered in traditional format and a WebCT version and developed by Dr. Barbara McNeil.
Pre-requisites: Admission to the BSN program or permission of instructor on a "space available" basis. Must be completed prior to taking NU 400-level courses.
Course Description:
Computer-intensive investigation of nursing informatics, health care information systems, and the roles of the nurse as professional and policymaker in implementing information systems. A variety of informatics issues are addressed.

A course is offered within the Community Nursing master's program that provides a survey/ introduction to nursing informatics. A database design project is a central part of the course.

The School of Nursing has a master's program in Health Care Systems which has 3 tracks (Informatics, Administration, and Case Management). Students interested in an informatics focus take the required professional and research core courses and core courses in health care systems in which practicum experiences occur in informatics settings. Then they take a 3 credit web-based course in Health Care Informatics that develops an understanding of the concepts relevant to health care informatics and the use of computerized information systems in health care organizations. A main focus is on the use of computer applications to support clinical and administrative decision making. The course includes e-mail, listservs, electronic discussion forums, and worldwide web and internet assignments. Two additional courses are taken in the School of Information and Library Science. The culminating course is a 200 hour residency in a nursing informatics setting.
