Update: Interagency Council on Information Resources for Nursing
March, 2005
The Interagency Council on Information Resources for Nursing held its 90th meeting October 15, 2004 at the offices of Lippincott Williams and Wilkins/Wolters Kluwer Health, New York, NY. The 91st meeting will be held March 15, 2005, at the new offices for the American Nurses Association in Silver Spring, MD. A report of activities to date follows:
- Essential Nursing References: Council is preparing update to the 2002 edition, with a web-based supplement to be provided in addition to publication in NLN Perspectives, Fall, 2005. The updated list will be ready for publication June, 2005. Additionally, the council is considering alternatives to the no-longer published Brandon-Hill List of Nursing Literature, a premier list previously used by most nursing libraries as a basis for their collection.
- The group is exploring the possibility of transferring its Archives to electronic format as it is increasingly difficult to find suitable location for storage and access to these documents.
- Leaders in the Magnet Hospital program are meeting with ICIRN members to address concerns of nurses and librarians related to access to information resources as they relate to Magnet designated facilities.
- ICIRN is seeking to establish partnerships with members of NOA, AACN, and JCAHO as organizations interested in best nursing practice based on evidence provided by quality nursing information resources.
