Join Genomics Working Group Benefits of Membership
Why Members Belong
GEN-WG members come from diverse areas within biomedical informatics, clinical practice, and basic and biomedical science, but share an interest in the confluence of genetic information and clinical observations. This territory is expected to yield many of medicine's next major scientific and therapeutic advances, but is not specifically covered by any other AMIA Working Group. Our challenges include, but are not limited to: genotype-phenotype correlation, controlled terminologies for genotype and phenotype databases, and integrating molecular information with clinical information. GEN-WG members enthusiastically take on this work for the improvement of health care.
Other Benefits
AMIA working groups serve as a mechanism for members to become involved in a specific area of focus in informatics. Membership in a working group avails an individual to assist with projects including:
- White papers
- Programs for the AMIA Annual Symposia
- Separate conferences or meetings devoted to the specific workings of the Working Group
- Position statements
Members are able to engage in networking activities including:
- Discussion lists
- Business meetings at Annual Symposia
- Special other meetings often scheduled at the Spring Congress
