CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS & REVIEWERS: ADEA TechExpo 2006

TO: ADEA Dental Informatics Section Members

The Section of Dental Informatics of the American of Dental Education Association announces the TechExpo 2006 as part of the ADEA 83rd Annual Session in Orlando, Florida, March 8-11, 2006. Through this announcement, the officers of the section solicit presentations and demonstrations involving the use of computer and related technologies in dental and allied dental education. Any member of ADEA can submit a presentation. The TechExpo will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2006 from 1:00PM - 4:00PM.

This years Annual Session is being held jointly with the American Association for Dental Research. This joint meeting will allow for a variety of shared learning opportunities and interdisciplinary experiences. The joint meeting will allow us to expand the time for the TechExpo from two to three hours, however, due to space limitations the Technology Tracks have been eliminated this year.

The TechExpo consists of table top demonstrations or presentations. This format is best suited for demonstration of software and hardware in a one to one or small group setting, to a provide an environment that promotes more interaction. Presenters will be provided individual spaces and electrical outlets for delivery in the Expo. TechExpo areas of interest include computer-based instruction and e-courseware, Internet, intranet, clinical or other administrative information systems, PDA's and innovation in the integration of information technology that support missions of dental and allied dental education.

The due date for submissions to the TechExpo is Monday, September 19, 2005.

TechExpo submissions must be made online at the the ADEA website - "http://www.adea.org/TFabstract/". Each abstract is peer-reviewed by two independent reviewers. The author(s) identity and their affiliation(s) are kept anonymous. Criteria for acceptance of submissions includes:

1. The purpose and objectives of the technology used are clearly stated.
2. The rationale and/or significance of the technology are identified
3. The technology approach and/or key features are clearly described.
4. The technology used is innovative and of importance to dental/allied dental education.
5. Evaluation strategies and or results consistent with stage of integration are summarized.
6. A conclusion and or current status of the technology used is clearly stated.

E-Proceedings
The TechExpo presenters abstracts will be included in a JDE publication and in the TechExpo Proceedings CD-ROM. Authors of accepted TechExpo submissions will be required to submit by Wednesday, February 1, 2006 a more detailed presentation or paper (in POWERPOINT or MS WORD) complete with graphics and or hyperlinks to more information related to the presentation. These documents will be included in an e-Proceedings of the ADEA TechExpo 2006 CD-ROM. More details will be provided at the notification of acceptance of the submission.

Notification of Acceptance:
Authors will be notified by email in early December 2005 of acceptance(s) of abstract(s) / presentation(s). Please provide primary email address as indicated.

Computer Presentation Compatibility:
It is recommended presenters bring their own laptops for presentations in the TechExpo presentations since many times special software or hardware configurations are necessary to run software applications used in the presentations.

Members of the Dental Informatics Section can serve as reviewers for the abstracts using the criteria indicated above. Reviewers will not be asked to review submissions from their home institution.
