JAMIA Student Editorial Board

JAMIA is now accepting applications from trainees who wish to apply for a position on the Student Editorial Board. Since the spring of 2003, when the Student Editorial Board (SEB) was created, it has provided outstanding Informatics trainees with an in-depth exposure to the JAMIA peer-review process. Details about the SEB may be found in an editorial published in JAMIA.

The selection process will be highly competitive-we will choose seven SEB members from the group of applicants. Each selected trainee will serve on the SEB for a one-year term, renewable for a second term by mutual agreement. SEB members will review at most 6-8 manuscripts per year. Papers will span the entire content area of JAMIA. All SEB members will be expected to serve for at least one year. The SEB members will receive education about the peer review process and be expected to treat JAMIA manuscripts with the same strict confidentiality employed by regular reviewers.

Although we have no specific requirements for SEB members, we anticipate that the most highly qualified applicants will be critical thinkers with a mastery of written English, experience with scientific writing (especially for peer-reviewed publications), a degree (or a history of employment) in health care or computer science and a solid knowledge of research design and basic biostatistics. Applicants also should not be expected to graduate during their term on the SEB.

Application materials may be downloaded here.

The downloadable zip file contains 4 MS Word documents:
  1. Invitation to apply
  2. JAMIA SEB Application
  3. JAMIA Instructions to Authors -- author instructions for JAMIA. We have included these to familiarize applicants with the range of manuscripts that they are likely to encounter.
  4. Flow process
Please email applications and a letter of reference from a faculty member at your institution involved in your training to Alexis Broussard, as listed on the application. If you have questions, feel free to email those as well. Thank you and good luck!
