AMIA and ATA Co-host the Health Technology Consumer Council

AMIA and ATA hosted the inaugural meeting of the Health Technology Consumer Advisory Council today, June 19th (10:00 am to 1:00 pm) in Washington DC at ATA headquarters. Dr. Richard S. Bakalar, Immediate Past President, ATA, officially opened the meeting and welcomed members. AMIA President and CEO, Don E. Detmer offered remarks on the state of telemedicine adoption centered on the position of patients and consumers of health, while ATA Executive Director, Jonathan D. Linkous provided an overview of telemedicine and its potential impact on consumers.

The meeting provided a platform for open discussion of issues and questions related to consumer-focused health technology and engaged members in a forum for feedback and consensus on three distinct topics:

  • Consumer adoption issues for telemedicine and medical informatics products and services
  • Appropriate consumer-focused product design and educational strategies
  • Clinical priority areas of stakeholder groups for widespread deployment of health information and remote medical services
