Public Health Informatics Distance Learning Course
The Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah will be offering its Public Health Informatics Distance Learning Course as part of the AMIA 10x10 program.
The University of Utah's contribution to the AMIA 10x10 is an introductory survey course of the field of public health informatics.
This web-based interactive course provides an introduction to the field of public health informatics. The goal of this course is to introduce informatics and public health students/practitioners to informatics principles and their application to public health problems. Students will develop basic analysis and lifelong learning skills to engage in the evolving field of public health informatics.

Director
Dr. Catherine Staes, BSN, MPH, PhD, is faculty in the Department of Biomedical Informatics at the School of Medicine, University of Utah. Dr. Staes received her PhD in Medical Informatics from the University of Utah in 2006, a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins University in 1987, and a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing from Georgetown University in 1981. Dr. Staes was an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIC) officer with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (1990-1992), worked as a public health epidemiologist for 15 years, and has numerous publications concerning epidemiology and biomedical informatics. Currently, Dr. Staes' research and teaching concerns the domain of public health informatics and the development of decision support tools and applications to support surveillance and public health goals. Dr. Staes will serve as Director of the AMIA - Utah 10x10 program.
