OBJECTIVES

           Transform EpicCare system super user position into a budgeted nursing informatics position in the Washington, D. C. area.  Complete part-time MSN/NI program spring 2016.  Become ANCC board certified in nursing informatics 2013.

 

WORK EXPERIENCE

System Super User (SU), Inova Health Systems (IHS)                                    2009-present

Project based nursing informatics implementation support as SU at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus' (IFMC), formerly Inova Fairfax Hospital. Travel to support any other Inova facility upon request: Inova Fair Oaks Hospital (IFOH), Alexandra (IAH), Mt. Vernon (IMVH), or Loudon Hospitals (ILH).  Prior to Epic implementations, this instruction and support was performed as an informal arrangement with nursing informatics analysts and managers.  Ortho remains my primary cost center.

 

Upcoming project:

*Epic cutover team and SU at either Inova Alexandria or Mt. Vernon Hospitals. Launching June 28, 2013.

 

Past project experiences:

*Epic cutover team and Charge/Lead Super User at 5New Surgical Unit, IFOH. Launched March 22-April 20, 2013.

*Epic cutover team and Charge/Lead SU.  Launched at IFMC Nov. 10, 2012-Jan 06, 2013.

*Provided classroom support for IP Nursing and Capstone Physician during pre-go-live training at Inova’s Epic training center, Cambridge Court Sept-Nov 2012.

*Instructed and supported CareFusion launch July – Oct. 2012 at IFMC/ED & CVORs.

*Co-instructed GECE Centricity to newly hired RNs May – Oct. 2012 Telestar center.

*Instructed McKesson AcuDose to all IFMC staff.  Supported staff and vendor installations during go-live Feb. - June 2011 at IFMC & June 2012 at IAH.

*Supported and audited IFMC ED's PICIS allergy integration process into GECE with vendor, Audacious Inquiry, encouraging staff nurses' adaptation and compliance 2010. 

*Supported cut-over data entry go-live transition night for Cerner Lab transition to SCC’s SOFT lab Nov. 2010 at IFMC. 

*Compiled two RN spectra-link survey analyses in Excel, studying RN phone usage by shift and unit type, studying workflow in 2010 at IFMC. 

*Instructed CareFusion Transfusion launch at Telestar during IFMC go-live, audited live transfusions, and supported users to improve nursing unit performance post launch 2010 at IFH and instructed July 2011 at IAH and May 2012 at IFOH. 

*Supported GECE/CPOE launch Nov. 2009 - July 2010 at IAH and Nov. - Dec. 2011 at IMVH.

*Completed a 14-week full-time re-orientation program.  Worked 2-3 days per week for two years.  Continue to work part-time as a staff nurse, in addition to any nursing informatics projects mentioned above.  Provide evidenced based best practice and compassionate nursing care to patient populations needing elective joint replacements, spinal surgeries, trauma surgeries, and general adult med/surg interventions.

Represented Rocephin, Tamiflu, and Xenical to targeted prescribers at Alexandria, Mt. Vernon, and Potomac Hospitals in VA as a hospital (PC1) rep until the end of 2000.  Company restructuring forced territory relocation to Rockville/Gaithersburg, MD and position change to field (B) rep January 2001.  Added Demadex to the aforementioned portfolio and became responsible for Xenical retail sales.  A second restructuring July 2001 relocated position into Fairfax.  Rated a “2” or “above average” at one year review.  Resigned due to lack of part-time opportunities.

 

      Franchise Owner, Decorating Den Interiors                                                   1994-2000

      Wake Forest, North Carolina  

         1997 Carolinas’ Franchise Owner of the Year out of 30 franchise owners.  Opened for business in 1994 in Jacksonville, NC and relocated franchise to Wake Forest, NC June 1996.  Operated full service franchise, selling hard and soft window treatments, bedding, furniture, carpet, wallpaper, accessories, and lighting.  Project manager with cabinetmakers, painters, plumbers, and other subcontracted installers. Sold franchise April 2000 to move north to the DC area.

 

            Registered Nurse, PACU, Carolina East Medical Center                                            1994

      New Bern, North Carolina

    Hospital formerly known as Craven Regional Medical Center in 1994.  Entered six-month orientation with PACU preceptor in this small community hospital. On call every other weekend twenty-four hours/day plus one night each weekday.  Occasionally assisted in operating room when called in for emergency surgeries.  Resigned after 5 months due to hostile work environment.

      Advanced as graduate nurse to registered nurse on adult acute care surgical orthopaedic and trauma recovery unit (Osler 6), operating under a professional practice model. Assumed charge nurse on weekends and off shifts.  Education committee member.  Married a US Marine stationed in North Carolina and relocated to N.C. after 15 months of employment.
