Senior Data Quality Analyst – Full Time Position Available
The Mount Sinai Medical Center Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking a motivated, resourceful and flexible individual to join our productive and collegial Research Division. The responsibilities of this position mainly involve supporting the study of patterns of usage of emergency departments throughout the region and will be the first priority for this position. The candidate will work closely with Healthix, a Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) serving New York City and Long Island, its numerous stakeholder organizations, and the New York eHealth Collaborative (NYeC), which oversees much of the data exchange activities in New York State.
The Senior Data Quality Analyst will perform in-depth analysis on Healthix’s vast clinical dataset, which is managed by NYeC, in order to address and data quality issues in order to deliver cleaned and de-identified data sets to the Principal Investigator (PI) and research team.
DUTIES
- Perform extensive queries on Healthix data to:
- Conduct simple descriptive statistical analysis (frequencies, averages)
- Confirm plausibility of results through common sense validation
- Investigate anomalies
- Present results to stakeholders
- Extract, aggregate, clean and de-identify data for downstream statistical analysis
- Document activities (query specifications, data source investigations, etc.)
- Investigate data issues
- Trace data from source to final destination
- Work with stakeholders to identify issues, inconsistencies, errors
- Example issues
- Completeness –Expected records and data elements not actually present
- Concordance – Data between sources and HIE don’t match
- Plausibility – Data format and content do not make sense
- Currency/Timeliness – Dates out of range (i.e. year 2024)
- Terminologies – Inconsistent codes and coding systems
- Inconsistent transformation
- Redundancy, duplication
- Implement corrective actions
- Determine root cause
- Work with stakeholders to identify appropriate actions
- Make recommendations
- Implement changes
- Confirm successful results
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
- Report directly to the PI on all research and evaluation related issues (PI to set work priorities, deliverables and deadlines). Work under the supervision of Healthix and the New York eHealth Collaborative for all data access, security and privacy issues.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s required, Master Preferred
· Technical Skills
o SQL – required
o Experience working with health/clinical data – required
o HL7 v2 and v3 – highly desirable
o Data management – required
o ETL tools – desirable
o OLTP and OLAP – desirable
o Business intelligence tools – desirable
o Statistical packages (SAS, SPSS, Stata, R) – desirable
o Big data, visualization – desirable
o InterSystems HealthShare – desirable
o IBM Initiate – desirable
· Non-Technical Skills
o Interpersonal – adept at working with a diverse group of stakeholders including IT, operations and clinical staff at a variety of health care organizations.
o Problem solving – enjoys analyzing and solving large, complex and difficult data issues
o Persistence and determination – is not easily daunted or discouraged by challenges, will politely encourage, nudge or pester other people to complete tasks needed to analyze and solve problems.
o Self-starter – takes initiative or proposes actions without being asked
o Independence – does not require much supervision, can develop own work plans, objectives and timelines
SALARY & BENEFITS: Full time employee of Mount Sinai Medical Center with annual salary of ~$80,000+ commensurate with training and experience, and a competitive benefits package. Position is based at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Manhattan, New York. Some time will be spent at regular intervals with the Healthix technical staff at their New York office.
