The Director of Research Databases will collaborate with information technology, operations, and research groups at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP) and Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) to define and implement strategies for data and knowledge management in a premier academic medical setting.

The position, which will include a faculty appointment in the Columbia University Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI), provides an outstanding opportunity to build on NYP and CUMC’s established clinical information systems infrastructure. The applicant will play a formative role in efforts to deploy new technologies such as advanced analytic tools and self-service data access capabilities to clinical researchers, quality improvement personnel, and hospital and university leadership.

The successful candidate will have advanced training in biomedical informatics. Excellent communication skills and prior success in leading interdisciplinary teams and in collaborating with clinical or translational scientists are desirable traits. A clinical background in a medical specialty is preferred, although applications from well-qualified PhD-trained informaticians or computer scientists will also be considered. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s experience and track record.

The Department of Biomedical Informatics (DBMI) is housed in Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. It is the second oldest such department in the United States, and it began training graduate students in 1994. It is consistently identified as among the very best biomedical informatics programs in the world. The department has a strong service component, providing over $2 million in information technology services to NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University Medical Center, which serve as “living laboratories” for informatics research. Rich interdisciplinary relationships exist throughout the university and hospital, with many faculty having joint appointments in other departments or schools.

Columbia University is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer.
