The University of Illinois at Chicago contribution to the AMIA 10x10 is an intensive course that provides an overview of the health informatics field, emphasizing key issues and challenges for the field. This program is of particular value to clinical practitioners, as well as IT professionals, who are seeking to expand their knowledge of the health care information technology industry. The course has been taught at UIC for more than six years to both graduate and advanced undergraduate students. No prerequisites are required.

Annette L. Valenta, DrPH - Director of UIC 10x10 Offering


Dr. Annette L. Valenta, Professor in the Department of Biomedical and Health Information Sciences and Visiting Associate Dean for Health Informatics and Technology in the College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will serve as the director of the UIC 10x10 offering.

Dr. Valenta has been at UIC since 1991, recruited to implement UIC's model curriculum in health informatics through a grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services, Bureau of Health Professions. As Associate Dean, she continues to develop the research and educational programs in health informatics at UIC. She is known for her research in the area of social and organizational issues in health care computing. Dr. Valenta is a Senior Member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) and a member of the Delta Omega Society (a public health honorary fraternity).
