Methods for Bioinformatics

The 10x10 at Stanford University will introduce the basic computational issues and methods used in molecular biology, including an overview of biological data sources available on the web. Topics will include basic algorithms for alignment of biological sequences and structures, as well as more advanced representational and algorithmic issues in structure and sequence computation.

The AMIA 10x10 program prepares professionals in the health, biological and IT areas to address informatics issues in the workplace. The Stanford course breaks new ground by opening up topics in bioinformatics to the 10x10 program. "Stanford is excited to be a part of the 10x10 program. We are committed to distance learning and have an existing infrastructure for an online MS degree and online graduate certificate program. Our 10x10 offering is a distillation of our introductory course in bioinformatics and computational biology, and is based on a course I have been teaching for more than 10 years," said Dr. Altman.
